Garment Design and Prototyping for Haptic Fedback Vest
Inventing Future Technologies Inc. (IFTech)
George Brown College is collaborating with Inventing Future Technologies Inc. (IFTech) to undertake garment design and prototyping for their As Real as it Gets (ARAIG) haptic response vest system for gaming and simulation training applications. The ARAIG vest uses vibration and muscle stimulation devices, and a speaker system to enhance immersive simulations. Faculty and students from the School of Fashion Studies will research textile options, construction methods, sizing, and will develop prototypes to determine working specifications to be forwarded to IFTech’s manufacturing partner. The ARAIG will be composed of a machine washable under layer, and a design-intensive “exoskeleton” outer layer. Resulting designs and findings will allow IFTech’s manufacturing partner to develop a commercial version of the product.
