Automated Medication Dispenser for Persons with Severe Mental Illness
Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
Automated Medication Dispenser for Persons with Severe Mental Illness – George Brown College (GBC)’s Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET) have partnered with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) to design and prototype an affordable and easy to use medication dispenser. CAMH is Canada’s largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital and research centre. The functionality of the dispenser will offset the impact of cognitive challenges on medication adherence and would deliver medication for up to four times daily, refilled on a monthly basis. CAMH have conceptualized most key components and characteristics of the dispenser, and have done market and patent research, and now need to develop a prototype of the medical dispenser. The GBC research team will consist of Jamie McIntyre, B.Sc, Engineering Physics, M.P.D., New Product Development, Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technologies in CCET and a team of 3 student researchers.
