The SMART Lab is an interdisciplinary research team concerned with questions at the intersection of mind, music and technology.

Smart Connected Office Cubicles: Optimizing HVAC Energy Consumption

Camino Modular Systems and GBC are collaborating on a project to reduce energy consumption in an office environment by controlling the temperature and air quality at a specific cubicle instead of the entire office space. By monitoring cubicle occupancy and user preferences, the right amount of heating/cooling energy can be controlled to create a comfortable environment

Functional Mobility Screening in Adults 50-70 Years of Age (Phase II)

This project explores whether a health screening tool (including objective and subjective measures) can be designed to identify potential problem areas in functional mobility in clients in their 5th and 6th decades. Two students have been hired to work on the project.

Assessment of the Construct Validity of Virtual Interactive Case (VIC) Scores in Nursing cases

The Virtual Interactive Case (VIC) system allows nurse educators to create online simulations of patient encounters that students can use to practice conducting nursing assessments. The VIC case allows the student to take the patients history, conduct a review of systems and physical exam, order laboratory tests, review diagnostic images and consult with specialists in gathering the pertinent information to determine the patient problems that require nursing interventions.

e-Learning Modules for the Community Sector

The objective of this project was the development of innovative, interactive and accessible e-Learning modules that support knowledge uptake and knowledge translation for point of care health care providers in the home care sector.
