Family Practice of the Future

No matter what their particular needs, Canadian families share one sentiment: a desire for well-coordinated and timely access to family health care that accounts for the demands of modern life. Enter the Family Practice of the Future, a waiting room designed around the way modern patients live. St. Michael’s, a major teaching and research hospital based in Toronto, collaborated with George Brown College’s Architectural Technician Program on this Waiting Room Design project. The concept of the Family Practice of the Future at their 80 Bond Street location incorporated new technology, interprofessional care, chronic disease management and self-care advice into a waiting area designed around the complexity of modern life. Supported by NSERC-funding, George Brown students presented their designs to a panel of St. Michael’s judges as part of an in-class project. The top three students were selected to have elements of their design incorprated into the final plans for the facility.
