Develop a library of Building Information Model objects
Borgo® Contract Seating (Borgo)
Borgo® Contract Seating (Borgo) is a division of Borgo® Upholstery Ltd., which was founded in 1984 and is wholly Canadian owned with manufacturing in Toronto, Ontario. The range of product offered and expertise in the corporate, educational, institutional, health care and public sectors is one of the leading factors to Borgo’s success. To increase its productivity and customer satisfactory, Borgo has recently approached the Centre for Construction and Engineering Technology (CCET) at George Brown College (GBC) to create BIM objects for part of its product line. Borgo currently utilizes AutoCAD software for product layouts. When a designer or architect wishes to use a Borgo product, Borgo’s staff attempt to create the symbols as quickly as possible, but this can be very time consuming and complicated depends on the situation. When Borgo is unable to create a product symbol timely, it faces the risk of losing its customers over competitors’ products. Therefore, through building a library of BIM objects, Borgo hopes to enable the quick and professional display of Borgo products in a manner that emulates what they represent: quality, service and design. The George Brown team will include Principal Investigator (PI) Tony Tersigni, Professor, Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET); and two CCET Student Researchers (SRs). Under the supervision of Tony, the Student Researchers will create 20 BIM objects using Revit software in this project. Depending on project outcome, Borgo will consider the possibility of exploring an out of class co-op placement for Architectural Studies students as a way to continue supporting its BIM adoption.
