User Interface Design Evaluation and Partial Implementation
RainGrid Inc. is a returning partner of George Brown College (GBC) who builds climate resilient stormwater infrastructure for municipalities and property developers. RainGrid retrofit’s and install’s stormwater management systems enhanced with Internet of Things (IoT) technology for real-time automated rain harvesting cisterns and data visualization and analytics.
RainGrid works with regional and municipal governments, and land developers to design, install, and operate stormwater Smartgrid networks for both greenfield and retrofit neighbourhoods. RainGrid’s innovative product de-risks communities and provides flood and drought resilience at half the cost of conventional grey or land-based green infrastructure. RainGrid also transforms the typical stormwater business model of infrastructure on public property into a distributed community stormwater utility. This distributed stormwater infrastructure creates a self-regulating, utility-scale network of real-time automated IoT managed cisterns. Designed, implemented and maintained by RainGrid, the Stormwater Smartgrid guarantees that city climate adaptation programs can achieve measurable, effective and reliable residential de-risking.
RainGrid is seeking assistance to upgrade the data visualization and analytics utility of the user dashboards associated with their two key client groups: (1) My.RainGrid.com – homeowners, and (2) Manage.RainGrid.com – municipalities & developers.
The proposed research would incorporate the digital experience design thinking process to complete the following work plan: Project Initiation; Usability testing; User Experience Design; Project Close.
The GBC research team will be led by Yasamin Dadashi, Professor in the School of Design with support from Nastaran Dadashi (Research coordinator in the School of Design) for the second phase, and Ryan Silver for the third phase through until close. For each phase, they will supported by four Student Researchers.
